Dana Off-Highway Transmission Oil Specifications

Dana (also known as Clark) off-highway transmissions are used in a variety of different forklift brands.  Dana actually purchased the Clark division back in 1997 (over 20 years ago!) but the name Clark still lingers on.

Need Dana or Clark transmission parts? We can help – just click here

Recommended Lubricants for Dana/Clark Transmissions and Converters:

  • Preferred Oil Viscosity

    • See the chart below and base your lubricant based on the correct temperature
    • If more than one applies, pick the one that your temperature is closest to the middle in the range

      Oil Application Chart
  • Approvals: Make sure to use multi-viscosity lubricants
  • Not Approved: GL-5 and engine oils – use only lubricant specified for transmissions!
  • Sump Pre-Heaters: Transmission fluid needs to be heated to a specific temperature before use to make sure it is pumping with the correct viscosity.
  • During warm up, make sure to stay in neutral gear! Driving is not allowed with a full load until minimum sump temperature is reached.
  • Using synthetic fluids, oil service life may be longer. To determine each transmissions change interval, measure the metal wear and oil oxidation over time to figure out the baseline. Please remember that removal of the transmission based solely on checking the metal ware is not recommended.
  • Transmission lubricant should follow the specifications of one of the following:
    • Caterpillar TO-4
    • MIL-PRD-2104G
    • John Deere J20 C, D
    • Dexron IID or Dextrol III

Raymond Forklift Serial Number Lookup: Where Do I Find It?

Note: This page is for Raymond forklifts only. To find a serial number for a forklift of a different brand, click here for our other guides.

When ordering Raymond forklift parts, having the correct serial number is crucial. The quickest way do a Raymond forklift serial number lookup is to check the forklift’s nameplate (also called a data plate or data tag). This useful little plate displays various details about your truck–how much it weighs, how much it can lift, its model, and (most importantly) its serial number. On a Raymond forklift, the nameplate is often found near the dashboard, like in the image to the left, and looks similar to the image on the below.

raymond forklift serial number lookupraymond forklift serial number lookup - serial number location

But what if your forklift’s nameplate has worn down or fallen off? Don’t worry just yet. A Raymond forklift’s serial number can sometimes be found physically stamped on its chassis. For Raymond trucks, this number is often located in the power section, usually under the controller. But beware: there are also shop work order numbers stamped on various places on the frame, which are not correct serial numbers. So, when you’re in dire need of your serial number and your nameplate isn’t cutting it, you now have another handy option. Just be careful when you’re looking all over your chassis not to mistakenly use any other numbers!

Quickest Way to Find the Serial Number

This useful plaque displays various details about your lift–its model, how much it weighs, how much it can lift, and (most importantly) its serial number. If you have a Clark forklift parts catalog for your machine, the serial number will also be printed on the front cover.  On a Clark forklift, the nameplate looks like the image to the right and is often found near the dashboard or the seat, like in the image to the left:

clark forklift serial number, clark forklift serial number lookup, clark forklift serial number locationBut what if your forklift’s nameplate has worn down or fallen off? Don’t panic. A Clark forklift’s serial number can be found physically stamped right on its frame. Often, this number is stamped in the left-hand frame member of the chassis. For example, to the right is the frame stamp from the forklift shown above. So, if you’re in dire need of your serial number and your nameplate is out of commission, remember to check the body of your truck too!
